The story is based on the quote, "What's the use of stories that aren't even true?" The use of these stories is to help people get an imagination, and to help people keep their imagination. One question you could ask is, who are fantasy stories mostly told to? They are told to children and babies. This is probably the reason why they have more imagination. If for example, ten people look at the same fact then ten different, but yet all true things could be found from that one fact. So what exactly is the nature of truth if nature is fact and truth is not always found in fact or there are different truths in nature? The nature of truth is our own opinion to an object or fact. For example, I can say that I have found the real meaning of nature of truth; that my meaning is the only correct one. Many others would probably disagree with what I have to say. What Rushdie is saying with this quote is that in fictional literature, he doesn't want to find true things that happen in the real world; he wishes to find the truth about the tale. So he is saying that if the story is based on something true in the real world then he doesn't want to hear or read it. He wishes to read or hear tales that need an imagination for it to become a true book. He wishes to read tales where you need a heart to be able to feel the magic inside the book to be able to understand the true meaning of it. The part in the book, where it explains about the two sides (light and dark, good and bad), could have been seen from Rushdie himself as he was under protection. The light side could be when he was free to do what he wanted and the dark side could be when he is under protection. The dark side getting lighter could be himself trying to make his life look better than what it is.
