Introduction & Aim of research
For my research proposal I decided to do it on Domestic Violence & its effects on Children.
This research aims to observe, evaluate, and analyse the relevant features such as hitting and shoving, sexual abuse, and even excessive stalking of domestic violence in the pursuit of revealing the adverse impact of the effects of domestic violence upon women, children, and the entire society in general. For the success of this research, there will be use of primary sources of information and critical analysis of all the secondary sources of information. This research will incorporate a fusion of research designs to optimize its success. The samples used will effectively represent the general population. The research will incorporate the use of various data collection techniques to increase the applicability of the research results. Domestic violence can be described as a violent or aggressive behaviour within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. Domestic violence can happen on the street, in one’s home or even in a public place. The people who are exposed to domestic violence can be children, men and women; women are most usually the ones that suffer from domestic violence from their loved ones. Domestic violence has been a major controversial issue in the recent past and it continues to be till today. Traditional research to ascertain the effects of living with domestic violence on children conducted psychological test to measure children’s competency and development. Development psychologists experimented on children in laboratory settings, if the level of competency demonstrated by a child was below average for their age and stage of development, witnessing domestic violence was deemed to be the cause. To know whether a child has been harmed by their experiences we need to how ‘normal’ children function and develop (Archard, R. 2010). All children deserve a safe, violence free parents who will love, and protect them; they also need stability in that when things go wrong outside the home, then their homes become a place of safety, comfort, love, help and support. According to United Nations International Emergency Children’s Fund (UNICEF, 2006) yearly hundreds of millions of children are exposed to domestic violence, and this leaves a profound negative impact in their lives and that of their future; furthermore, these children not only witness those violent acts but also hear the sounds and may be aware of the signs; it is a global fact. Some psychologists believe domestic violence effects the way that children think and can cause ‘pre-mature’ developmental understanding and ways of thinking. What counts as harm depends on norms of well-being which vary culturally.
