Personal Media Usage Analysis

Media Usage Log and Analysis Media and entertainment are a big part of today's world, whether everyone agrees with it or not. After recording my uses of media on paper, I've come to realize that media is more than just entertainment that fills the boredom in our everyday lives; it's more of a way to get through the day and creates or maintain inspiration that we can manipulate to make something even more beautiful. Media has definitely changed my life for the better because I'm at the age where I am asked most who I want to be. However, like a lot of people, I have no idea. That is until I realized my profound passion for movies and their complexity of it, along with the beauty and sensational emotions it is able to develop. I've always found movies interesting; I've always wondered why the director or photographer decided certain shots, how a scene with CGI was choreographed, how well the transitions between two different scenes were edited, and how the coloring and scenery were depicted. It wasn't until I joined the Video Production Academy in my sophomore year of high school that I got hands-on experience with equipment like tripods, dollies, and even a gimbal stabilizer. By senior year, I managed to have my own content in my high school's weekly broadcast and won three total awards, along with a scholarship. By the time I graduated, I knew that I wanted to make movies.

There were no patterns in my media use except for the fact that I listened to music almost every day. In my log, I didn't listen to music as much, but it's actually a big part of my life. I listen every morning while getting ready and on my way to school. I never carpool, nor do I live with someone who is always by my side, so I am always alone when I listen to my music. For this specific media, I use it to keep me up and to clear the silence in the morning. Also, I feel like I need music while I drive because hearing other cars next to me is terrifying, especially on the freeway. My music doesn't really influence my daily life, rather it just makes it better. I remember having to take the city bus one time, and I completely forgot my headphones. Thus, I sat in silence for what felt like an hour; I was miserable the whole day.

Media has influenced me throughout my life but never had it never affected me negatively. I found that I rely heavily on music to start my day and keep me up during long rides from place to place, which is nothing but positive. In fact, I listen to music for the majority of my day because it has become so habitual that it'd feel like empty space without it. The three days that I recorded my media usage were, interestingly, the days that I didn't watch television as much as I regularly do. Usually, I would watch a lot of movies and YouTube videos daily that sometimes contains violence and are filled with profanity, but I don't base my life on it, nor do I go around acting like the made-up characters in it. The kind of movies that I would love to w...
