After his second movie he abandoned movie making all together to pursue his true compassion for aviation. He was obsessed with planes and he was determined to build TWA, a commercial airline. But he faced opposition from Senator Brewster from Maine (played by Alan Alda) and Pan-Am president Juan Trippe (Alec Baldwin). He was also determined to build high-speed aircraft and to fly faster and farther than any other man. This he did and he almost killed himself while he was flying a very fast airplane that he built. The movie also focuses on some of his romances. One of these romances was with Katherine Hepburn (Played by Cate Blanchett). This romance started out nice but it ended up in a heated dispute when she left Hughes for another man. He also had affairs with actresses Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale) and Faith Domergue (Kelli Garner). In this movie, the director, Martin Scorsese, spent perhaps too much time showing Hughes' struggles with OCD and other mental disorders. Hughes seemed to be afraid of germs. He spent a lot of time watching his hands. He felt that he had a psychological problem and it terrified him. He even got naked to watch a movie for fear that his clothes were contaminated with germs. Thus, the Aviator is a movie with a lot of action and suspense and it really pays off to watch it. . In fact, the director of Aviator did a great job making the movie since it really got the audience attention. The audience was made up of ordinary people who enjoyed action movies
