INTRODUCTION
A forest ecosystem is defined as an area dominated by trees and other woody plants.
Forests aren't only trees, however. Healthy forests have a lot going on in them. There are
many different types of forests in the world, ranging from tropical rain forests to the
dense subpolar taiga. To truly understand a forest ecosystem. We must understand the
relationships of biotic species and abiotic things. The forest ecosystem which is being
experimented, has 1700 trees which are the producers, 800 deer (primary consumers),
200 bears (secondary consumers) and 20,000 mushrooms ( other producers). This
experiment explores the affect trees which are one type of producer in the ecosystem
have on mushrooms the second type of vegetation on the ecosystem. This experiment
also explores the affect trees have on secondary consumers
PURPOSE
The purpose of this lab is to find the effect of a wildfire in a forest ecosystem (83% of the
trees in the forest were destroyed) has on the population of other vegetation such as the
mushrooms and also the effect on secondary consumers the bears.
HYPOTHESIS
If 83% of the trees were destroyed in a forest ecosystem then the population of secondary
consumers will decrease and the population of other vegetation will increase. The
population of secondary consumers will decrease because of the decrease in population
of primary consumers which are deer in the forest ecosystem. The population of primary
consumers since many primary consumers( deer ) will dies of starvation. And a
secondary consumers will also die of starvation since the population of primary
consumers decreased. The other vegetation like mushrooms will increase because the
primary and secondary consumers will consume other vegetation without trees. And the
other vegetation will reproduce more.
