    No idea why these guys would do something as stupid as charging for their service, effectively alienating a good chunk of their loyal user base and losing the first mover advantage they had built.


    The product is good but Wordpress clearly has the momentum and is the better product. Typepad is good for the entry level blogger since its more reliable and doesn't have the some of the upgrade issues you face with Wordpress but anyone looking for industrial-strength capabilities should think about upgrading to wordpress...

    There has always been a free (as in beer) version available, and since a few months there is also an Open Source version available (free as in speech).


    Feature-wise, MT can definitely withstand the comparison with WP, but with a much better track record on security and hassle-free upgrades.
