Opening sevenzip (.7z) files on the mac?

By naman - Feb. 19, 2008

Can't seem to unzip these files on the Mac (using Leopard) and i don't have parallels/Fusion. Any ideas on how I can get this done?

There are some unofficial 7zip packages for Linux and other systems - you can find links to these at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Have you tried Stuffit Expander? It uncompresses pretty much every compression format available.

I have stuffit deluxe 9.0 but it doesn't support 7z

Try iArchiver - http://www.iArchiver.com - it's a pretty cool tool to create, extract and convert archives across multiple formats. Unfortunately its not free :( but I hear there are ways around that :)

I recommend the The unarchiver to decompress all file types. It opens just about every thing and runs great on Leopard.

I'll second smalltransport's recommendation of "The unarchiver". This is one of the first programs I downloaded for my Mac when I switched to Macintosh back in 2006.

The Unarchiver won't work with 7z. I tried. Try iArchiver.

I tried ez 7z also. It works very quickly and problem free on Tiger 10.4.11. It runs in Terminal with a GUI front-end.
