I have a site that generates about 200,000 page views a month. Ok Ok...I realize its not much to write home about but an extra couple of hundred bucks a month wouldn't hurt :)
Wondering if anyone has compared openads to adsense and if there is any advantage of going with the much touted opensource platform?
I keep seeing adsense embedded on every other page I go to but don't know how useful it is - it seems like the click-through rate would be putrid

Add AnswerI think there is some confusion here and the openads site doesn't do a great job of explaining it either.
OpenAds is a adserving platform (much like Double-Click) that can be used to manage advertising campaigns across different services like Adsense, YPN, etc.
I think for your needs, you can start off by deploying the basic services - google, yahoo, and even look at adbrite they have a good offering and recently released spott which is essentially a link exchange and might help in driving more traffic to a point where openads would make sense.
Good Luck!!
Also checkout a demo at http://demo.openx.org/. Username/password - agency/demo - it will give you a good idea of the functionality.
Thanks Eric! This makes it a lot clearer! :)

Go with Adbrite - they're great and support is a lot better than adsense. You tend to have a better payout with Adbrite and they have better options for ad formats as well.
AdSense is a great product but Google is getting too arrogant for its own good and we need to promote other services esp. if the payout is same/similar.
