Why is OStatic going to be better than SourceForge?

By osfiend - Mar. 04, 2008

I support and contribute to Open Source but I don't see what advantage OStatic has over a site like Sourceforge or Freshmeat?

You serious? Like, keeping the project content fresh? Or just allowing me to drill into search results?

SF and FM provide a great, great service, don't get me wrong. I think OStatic and SF can co-exist and help out FOSS!

This really complements SF and FM. Ultimately you have to go to one of the repositories to download the code and interact with the other developers but I think this helps with making Open Source more main stream.

The blog adds a good perspective and keeps you up to date with what's going on in the OSS world and it seems like they've got some good posts going. Being associated with GigaOM really helps as well and this will be a nice addition to their existing network of (very useful and informative) blogs.

This site will really help make the open source evaluation process easier. I think it will also increase awareness since a lot of the IT world still doesn't have a complete understanding of the pros and cons of using open source packages. Great job with the site.

SourceForge.net's community manager, Ross Turk, did a series of posts a while back about the things SourceForge.net is that people might not realize:

(I work with SourceForge, but believe these posts are relevant to this thread.)
