Any good open source speech recognition apps out there?

By expansive - Mar. 12, 2008

Looking to embed a speech recognition system into my online offering. Any good open source apps out there that can serve as a starting point?

I ran a search on OStatic but didn't really find anything that interesting. Voxforge was one, but haven't anything good/bad about it.

Like I mentioned in a previous response, OStatic facets are awesome! I ran a tag search for speech recognition and using the facets I was able to narrow down ~35 project that would fit the bill. Now, I haven't used any of these but at least its a good starting point. Check it out at http://ostatic.com/searchtag/speech+recognition/project/1/Project_Type/O...

Check out http://xvoice.sourceforge.net built on IBMs Viavoice platform.

Also, as I understand it, OS X comes with voice/speech recognition built into it but I haven't tried it.

Tried a bunch of freeware apps from download.com back in the day and it was painful. So, if anyone has actually tried a package that works - i.e. less than 5-10% error rate - please share it with everyone

If you have the moolah, take a Nuance (www.nuance.com).
