Any apps out there that specifically cater to the education community?

By angels - Apr. 07, 2008

I'm looking for an app that allows professors to build course pages, online classrooms, manage student communication, etc. etc. - essentially an Open source Blackboard.

I know that the typical CMS apps like Drupal will be able to facilitate this through some relatively minor customization, but was curious to see if there was anything specifically built with the education community in mind.

Moodle is an excellent tool for building an online school or university. You can have some courses available to some students while other courses have a separate tuition. courses can be built several ways including test, webpages, and powerpoint presentations. Skills tests can be created including the use of fill in answers and multiple choice questions that give partial credit for being partially correct. you can see Moodle in action at http://www.moodle.org . I can also help you stup and configure the site for you

Also take a look at Dokeos - http://www.dokeos.com/features.php - a good comprehensive list of features for an e-learning offering
