The software supports many commonly used instant messaging protocols, allowing the user to log into various different services from one application.Released under the terms of the GNU General Public License, Pidgin is free software. Gaim becomes Pidgin

If you have a friend using a particular IM that you don’t have installed? Don’t fret; install Gaim from http://gaim.sourceforge.net and chat with your friends who are using any major messenger application. Currently, it supports Yahoo, msn, Aol, Jabber and many others.
