Audacity is a free digital audio editor application. Audacity is cross-platform, using the wxWidgets software library to provide a similar graphical user interface on several different operating systems.Audacity was created by Dominic Mazzoni of Google, while he was a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University. Dominic Mazzoni is still the main developer and maintainer of Audacity, with help from many others around the world.The latest stable release of Audacity is 1.2.6, released on 15 November 2006. As of August 10, 2007, it was the 11th most popular download from SourceForge.net, with over 24 million downloads. Audacity won the SourceForge.net 2007 Community Choice Award for Best Project for Multimedia. Audacity is free software and is licensed under the GNU General Public License version two, but may update to GPLv3 after version 1.4.0.   [edit]

      Better than most commercial apps. out there...

      This can compete with the best available commercial software, and is better than many of the major editing suites. Its very flexible and every functional aspect of the software can be configured to work with any hardware setup. You can export to any of the major formats and there are basic plugins for every sort of post-production work come as part of the download.


      Just so you know, the interface is very plain but that doesn't really matter. It can look a little confusing at first but the help file is great and the downloadable manual really does a good job of hand holding you through the intricacies of the app.
