Launchy is a free Open Source application launcher for Windows. It indexes shortcuts in the start menu to allow access to programs without opening the start menu itself. Program Usage Launchy automatically loads itself on boot and waits for the user to call it by pressing Alt + Space. The user then starts typing the name of the program they wish to launch. Launchy automatically searches its list of programs for the closest match as the user types. When it finds the desired program, the user hits enter and it is automatically launched. Additionally, I have used Launchy to index all my mp3 collection (around 6000). So , now whenever I want to listen to a song , I press WIN-SPACEBAR (my custom launchy shortcut) and type in the first few characters of the song. Press ENTER, and the song is launched. Launchy also has some great plugins: 1) Weby: Search the web 2) Calc: Do calculations in the launchy 3) GCalc: WIN-SPACEBAR and type in 1 USD in AED [edit]

Launchy is the best and fastest application launcher that you will ever find on Windows. Leave your mouse and Shortcuts for a few strokes of the keyboard.
It learns as you use it, remembers your chioices and hence gets even quicker over time.
Simple and one of the most talked about software in LifeHacker, SourceForge etc... it cant get any better being open source and completely free.
It resembles the famous and very useful Quicksilver in Mac and is undoubtedly the best on Windows.
I have been an avid launchy user for the past year. Its a brilliant little application Launcher.
For those of you, who dont know what an Application Launcher is "everytime you need to goto Start Menu -> Programs -> Click on the Program Name", try pressing ALT-SPACEBAR , type in the first few characters, Launchy will show to possible matches, press ENTER. That way you can say good bye to "Start Menu".
Additionally, you can index MP3s, Documents, Media Files on your harddisk. So, you dont have to go hunting on your hard-disk, when you need them, Just type few characters in their name, and they popup! Launchy automatically maintains its index and blazing fast. It indexed my 6000 songs in 30 seconds.
You can also do more with Launchy plugins.
1) Search the web
2) Twit
3) Add items to Remember the Milk
4) Create your own custom scripts to launch stuff.
Ever since, I installed Launchy, I have never used the Mouse to launch programs!
Launchy is also available for Linux.
