XAMPP is the easiest way to carry around your Apache-MySQL-PHP work.
Available for Windows and Linux flavours. It features a pre-configured MySQL and Apache server with PHP, so that you can concentrate on what matters most to you - Developing the Web App.
You can carry it around in a thumb drive (around 40 MB), and is guaranteed to work in almost all windows / linux flavours.
XAMPP also features an easy control panel, start / stop panel, and port checker.
I'd suggest changing the Apache and MySQL ports to something of your own, to avoid conflicts with the apps running on host operating system. And then you click on xampp-setup and voila, all the config files are neatly updated.
Note: XAMPP mysql root user has a blank password.
