FNR or "Free Network Registrar" is based on an idea implemented on CAR (Cisco Access Registrar) by Cisco Systems, which lets you run your own DHCP/BOOTP/DNS server. The interesting aspect of it is its modules support, based on shared libraries (c code) or scripts (tcl/tk). FNR is basically a generic server; you can run whatever you want to. You can code a mini-dhcp or mini-telnet or mini-whatever server. Each extension can access two different environments, both handled and loaded at startup time (like daemontools) with "envdir". This environment lets you read/write variables and log to files. [edit]
