Today, instructional video site 5min has announced that it has secured $7.5 million in Series B venture financing. Led by new investor, Globespan Capital Partners, the round also includes existing investor, Spark Capital. 5min has aggressively pursued syndication deals and partnerships with many media companies, and many people in the open source community may not realize the breadth of how-to videos on open source topics that you can find at the site. It's an excellent resource for open source tutorials that you can start and stop as you see fit.

Take a look at the many Linux-focused instructional videos you can get at 5min, all with user ratings so that you can evaluate what is worth watching. There are videos on how to run Linux apps on Windows, and even how to install Linux on an iPod, in addition to many other topics.

5min is also loaded with highly rated videos on topics related to the Firefox browser. Here is a very well-liked video on the Web Developer Firefox extension, and another one on speeding Firefox up.

5min even runs pretty deep when it comes to tutorials on less high-profile open source applications. You can learn how to rip DVDs and do much more with VLC Media Player here. You can brush up on making videos with Blender, and adding effects, here.

The advantage that 5min has over many of the other how-to video sites is that it has struck a lot of deals with media heavyweights, vertical sites, and many others. It's worth spending some time there searching for tutorials on open source topics that you care about.

For many more free tutorials on open source topics, see this post, and this one.
