Android Developer Challenge, Round 2, Open for Submissions

Google developers have announced on the Android Developers blog that the second annual Android Developer Challenge is now accepting submissions. If you're interested in participating, you can submit applications for the Challenge here. There are some hefty cash prizes for the top applications, and all submissions to participate must be entered by 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, August 31, 2009--just a few days from now. Here are more details.

We covered last year's Android Developer Challenge, and the winning applications, here. There were some very ambitious applications produced, including several geolocation-focused creations. As was true last year, winning applications will earn substantial cash prizes. This year, there will be $175,000 in prize money in each of 10 application categories, with other satellite cash prizes available as well.

"It's very important that your apps only use published APIs," writes Eric Chu on the Android Developers blog. "Some users might be judging your submissions on new phones you haven't seen or tested. If your apps depend on unpublished APIs, they might not work on some of these phones. Please note that you won't be able to submit new versions of your apps after the deadline!" The contest is only open to applications that have not been made available in Android Market prior to August 31st, and applications must use only published APIs.

There is an Information Page on the Challenge, found here, and a Terms and Conditions page, found here. Last year's Challenge was a big success, and thousands of applications have proliferated on Android Market. We'll follow up on the winners from this year's event.
