Evernote is easily one of the best catch-all notetaking apps ever invented, but the open source community hasn't been getting a lot of love from its developers. That's beginning to change, however, with the beta release of Evernote for Android. It's available now for download and testing, and the development team would like your feedback.
If you don't know about Evernote, you owe it to yourself to find out more. It captures and organizes everything from documents and images to Web pages and screenshots. Data is stored in notebooks and fully searchable by keyword, tags, or titles.
One of the coolest things about Evernote is its ability to read images with printed or even handwritten text. Simply snap a picture with your smartphone or Web cam, upload it to your account, and any text contained in the image will be fully searchable. It's great for grabbing the content off of business cards, back-of-the-napkin brainstorming sessions, whiteboards after a meeting.
If you have an Android-based phone, grab Evernote's Android client and check out this app's coolness for yourself. Don't worry if you fall in love with it, because Evernote is free. There's also a premium version in case you need more storage or want to upload videos.
