Come For the Blog, Stay For the Q & A

os question

Every day on OStatic, we strive to bring you interesting and informative news, commentary, and app reviews -- but that's not all the site has to offer. One of my favorite sections of the site is Questions, where visitors can get answers, trade experiences, and help each other troubleshoot.

Our readers are awfully smart and quick to jump in when a fellow Linux enthusiast needs a hand. When Naman Aggarwal had trouble unzipping 7zip files on a Mac, he turned to the OStatic community for help and people responded with several solutions to try.

Future visitors will have no trouble finding the answers for questions that have already been asked, since all our site content is fully searchable. A sidebar also directs readers to related software, blog posts, and even user reviews.

You can also use Questions to connect with OStatic's staff. For instance, we were happy to offer a peek under the hood when Riyana Singh wanted to know if the site's search facets are a module in Drupal or custom made.

Got something you want to know about open source software or need help solving a problem? Head over to Questions now.

I first found out about OStatic when Google sent me over to a Q&A page while I was searching for Open Source screen capture tools and I've been an loyal follower (read: RSS Subscriber) ever since. The Q&A section is useful but tends to get lost on the site. Some basic yahoo answers-like features would make it more useful - ability to select best answer, simple WYSIWYG editor that allows you to embed code into the question/answer, threading, voting, moderation (adding/editing tags), etc.

Great job overall!

Cheers,

An easy guide for the entire site is definitely a plus point. "User Friendly" sites are definitely hot cakes.

I'm going to post a question now and see what sort of response I get ;)

OStatic is certainly a nice site with plenty of reviews of open source software and people that can help. The suggestions in the search box were especially helpful to me, which is how I found this site.

I personally really like the alternatives section where it shows you both, OSS and proprietary-source alternatives for a particular project. It is still somewhat sparse but has a fair amount of information for the popular projects
