It's only been a couple of months since Fedora 9 was released and already there's an alpha version of Alpha 10 (codenamed Cambridge) on the horizon. Though the final version isn't slated for release until November of this year, developers are calling on the community to put this new version though its paces and offer up some feedback.

There are several new features in the works for Fedora 10, including:

  • Glitch-free audio - An enhanced PulseAudio stack users timer-based scheduling to adjust dynamically for fewer drop outs. It also uses less power, and is more hardware dependent.
  • Sectool - A new security auditing an intrusion detection system that's completely modular and extensible. Administrators and community members can write their own tests, or use the configurable groups for adjusting existing test runs.
  • Connection Sharing - The NetworkManager's “Create new wireless network” tool allows for easy easy setup of an ad-hoc wifi network on any machine with a network connection and a spare wireless card. On computers with a primary network connection, devices connected to the ad-hoc wifi network can share connections to the outside network.

To find out more about Fedora 10, check the release notes, peruse the feature list, or simply download it and give it a spin.
