Like the old saying goes, when you build a better mousetrap, Mother Nature will just build a better mouse. The same holds true for technology: just when mobile device users figure out how to effectively sync mobile device data to servers, along comes the cloud. Now, in addition to syncing smartphones in the cloud, many people want to also manage other devices as well, like printers, cameras, and e-readers.
Open source mobile sync and push email provider Funambol announced this week that can now sync billions of wireless devices from smartphones to printers, right in a public or private cloud. In other words, Funambol built one heck of a mousetrap.
When you consider how many different places our data is scattered these days -- browsers, mobile phones, in-house networks, etc -- it's important to have a central location where everything is stored and easily accessible. Funambol's mobile cloud platform helps cloud computing providers like Amazon let customers sync nearly any device with practically any type of data.
“As we head into 2010, more companies are offering cloud computing. Yet, today's clouds are not equipped to handle the billions of mobile devices that people want to use to access cloud data and content. Funambol’s open source platform adds mobile capabilities to any cloud, enabling cloud providers to wirelessly sync any data, anytime, anywhere," says Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO.
