This week, the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit began accepting proposals for its upcoming event. The event, aimed at encouraging interaction between KDE's Akademy and GNOME's GUADEC developer conference attendees, gives prospective speakers the opportunity to bring their passion to a more diverse audience.

The conference is soliciting a variety of proposals -- topics geared specifically for those attending GUADEC or Akademy, presentations with "cross-platform" appeal, and Spanish language presentations for GUADEC and Akademy. Currently, submissions are being accepted for topics specific to either GUADEC or Akademy, but the Local Programme and Spanish language events should be announcing their submission guidelines shortly.

The Gran Canaria Desktop Summit takes place July 3rd to July 11th in Gran Canaria (the Canary Islands), in Las Palmas' Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and Congress Palace annexes.

GUADEC and Akademy were designed to connect and inspire developers within their respective projects. Holding these events in the same location, at the same time, is a great way to get these groups talking about their passion in its simplest form -- the free desktop.
