Heavy-Hitting Keynote Speakers Head for Upcoming Big Data Conferences

With Big Data much in the news, some notable conferences are taking shape, and they include opportunities to hear from some of the most advanced users of tools such as Hadoop and Apache Spark. The Linux Foundation, has announced the keynote speakers and program for Apache: Big Data, taking place May 9-12, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Meanwhile, on 21 and 22 June at Hotel ICON in Hong Kong, Marketing magazine is hosting a two-day conference offering insights into Big Data and marketing practices.

As we've noted, the Apache Software Foundation has been shifting its focus to Big Data and is advancing many related open source projects.  Apache: Big Data is targeted to gather the Apache projects, people and technologies working in Big Data, ubiquitous computing and data engineering and science in a project-neutral environment. The Linux Foundation is billing it as "the only event that brings together the full suite of Big Data open source projects."

Keynote speakers at Apache: Big Data include some really big time names, including Mark Shuttleworth and Doug Cutting:

Seshu Adunuthula, head of analytics infrastructure at eBay

Doug Cutting, co-creator of Hadoop, chief architect at Cloudera

Amy Gaskins, Big Data project director at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Alan Gates, co-founder of Hortonworks

Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical and Ubuntu

Brian Sullivan, director of streaming data engineering & analytics at Netflix

Ashish Thusoo, co-founder & CEO of Qubole

Matei Zaharia, Apache Spark creator and CTO of Databricks
