At OSCON last year, Jaspersoft revealed that work was underway to re-vamp JasperForge, its developer community platform. Jaspersoft's goal was to ensure that the Forge could support its community into the future by integrating new collaboration and networking tools, while enhancing the Forge's existing features.
Today, Jaspersoft has announced that the JasperForge upgrade has moved into high gear, with all of its new features and enhancements in place and operational.
The new Forge was designed, it seems, with a special emphasis on communication and social networking tools. While in far too many instances "social networking" deployments seem more like "clickable buzzwords" than valuable features -- a Forge, and especially a Forge dealing with business intelligence application development, is a setting where these features are absolutely critical. Of course it will help developers interact with and manage their projects -- but it also makes it simpler for non-developer contributors (business managers, department supervisors) to connect with developers.
The re-vamped JasperForge features enhanced AJAX based search functions, an improved Mantis bug tracker, support for Google Gadgets and multiple RSS feeds, and real time activity monitoring so that Forge members can keep their fingers on the pulse of the community.
Open source companies rely heavily on the support and efforts of the developer community. Jaspersoft's efforts to keep its Forge useful and modern is an important (and smart) way to show developers their work is appreciated.
