LinuxWorld Gets Underway in San Francisco

The LinuxWorld conference kicked off in San Francisco today, and OStatic will be providing reports throughout the week. Among news already coming out of the conference, Hyperic has introduced a way to manage XenServer from a central dashboard, and Unison is showing a lash-up that provides PBX features, groupware and more for a single Linux server. This year's conference also includes some interesting public demonstrations of new technologies overseen by conference organizers. Here are some of the early announcements.

Hyperic has announced its Hperic HQ for XenServer, which lets users access a central dashboard showing performance, configuration, logs and more for host machines and virtual machines. Also see our interview with Hyperic.....

StarNet Communications is showing LinuxLIVE, a Linux workstation solution that lets users suspend applications running on their office workstation and on remote Linux and Unix servers and resume them from remote locations...

Openbravo which makes web-based open source Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Point of Sale (PoS) software is showcasing its compatibility with Ubuntu.....

Unison is showing unified communications software designed to run on a single Linux server, offering telephony and PBX features, e-mail, instant messaging and groupware.....

Digi-Key Corporation is showing its $149 Beagle Board, a pocket-size, USB-powered board based on Texas Instruments’ OMAP3530 applications processor. It's targeted to give open sourcers access to high-performance ARM-based system-on-chip functionality.....

This year, the LinuxWorld conference includes an InstallFest, aimed at providing computers for needy schools.....

This year's conference includes an open source voting demonstration, where attendees will cast mock ballots for the 2008 presidential election and more, and then see how results are tallied.....
