If you don't listen to LugRadio podcasts, then you're really missing out. It's always informative, usually hilarious, and sometimes just plain weird. The show is so popular, in fact, that hundreds of listeners show up at the annual LugRadio Live event held each year. Though the podcast has international appeal, the live conference has only ever been held in the UK -- until now.
The "four large gents" behind LugRadio -- Jono Bacon, Stuart 'Aq' Langridge, Chris Procter, and Adam Sweet, have decided to take their show on the road and hold the first ever LugRadio Live USA 2008 at San Francisco's Metreon this April 12 - 13. There will be more than thirty speakers and the list of presenters reads like a Who's Who of the FOSS community. Look for big names like Debian founder Ian Murdoch, Ubuntu's Benjamin Mako Hill, Chris Blizzard of Mozilla and GNOME fame, and fellow OStatic blogger Joe Brockmeier from OpenSUSE.
There's also going to be an exhibitor area where companies like Linden Labs, Magnatune, and Hyperic will be on hand to talk about and listen to what users are looking for in their favorite open source software. Of course, you'll also have the chance to mix and mingle with fellow enthusiasts during the BOF sessions and debate panels.
Naturally, LugRadio Live will feature music -- and lots of it. Organizers want ideas on what to play and are looking for "good-time party rock and roll, like AC/DC, Beastie Boys, Rage Against The Machine etc, but also heavier music and metal is very welcome too." If you're a musician willing to contribute some of your tunes, let them know.
Registration is still open for the event and if you manage to talk a bunch of friends into coming along, you might even win a prize.
