As a Mac user, I'm often disappointed at the lack of good open source software designed specifically for my operating system. That's why I was really happy to read the news at TUAW.com that Sweet.fm is now an open source project. If you have a Mac and like to stream music from Last.fm, this is one app you need to check out.
Now that MP3 players are as affordable as a pack of gum, many people take their favorite music everywhere they go, but radio will never go out of style. Last.fm is a terrific service that learns what music you like as you listen, makes recommendations about similar music, and lets you stream radio right to your computer.
The Sweet.fm client for the Mac lets you control music and recommendations from Last.fm as easily as you control iTunes. Use your Mac keyboard's media keys, or assign your own hotkeys to perform specific functions. You can also pair it with your Apple Remote, see and skip upcoming songs, and even update your Skype status right from Sweet.fm. It will also automatically move songs to iTunes and check for duplicates before exporting anything.
If you're a Last.fm fan and a Mac user, you can't go wrong with Sweet.fm. It was worth the money when it was a paid app and now that the code is open it's even, well, sweeter.
