Mageia Looks Back at 2012 and Ahead to 2013

Magiea has enjoyed what some may consider phenomenal success their founding and today Trish Fraser spoke of what 2012 meant for the Mageia project. She wrote, "To all Mageia people around the world, wherever you are, we hope 2013 is a great year for you - and we plan to make it a great year for Mageia!"

Fraser today listed several positive reviews of Mageia 2 that were published last year, although not an exhaustive list. In addition, Mageia has been honored by being listed as a Top 10, Top 5, or Best Distro by respected outlets.

Another indication that Mageia's popularity is on the rise is its move up the Distrowatch.com Page Hit Rankings. Mageia occupied the number 15 spot in 2011 but promptly pushed Ubuntu down and took its number 2 spot in 2012. Only Linux Mint stands between Mageia and number 1.

While it's a long shot that Mageia will knock Linux Mint off the pinnacle in 2013, users and developers are looking forward to a terrific year for the fairly new system. Fraser said Mageia 3 is close to Versions Freeze and Beta 2 is due out January 18. "Feedback about Beta 1 has been really good, but we can always use more testing."

Fraser also reminded folks to look for their booth "at FOSDEM in Brussels, on the 2nd and 3rd of February." She said if you're in Brussels those days, do stop by and get a t-shirt and photo op.

Lastly, Fraser suggested that joining the Mageia community is a really good way to make new friends. " Check out all the teams and see which one suits you best: we'll welcome you with open arms!"

As for myself, I'm looking forward to April 2, 2013 when Mageia 3 is scheduled to be released.
