openSUSE Ends Week with 13.1 Milestone 2

by Ostatic Staff - Jun. 15, 2013

openSUSE has been in the feeds the last few days and iced the cake today with the announcement of openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 2. In the announcement Andres Silva said the highlight of this release is the new version numbers, but keep your pantyhose on cause "lots of changes are coming." Also included was an end of life notice for 12.1.

Updates this release include:

* Linux 3.10.rc4

* Xorg X Server 1.14.1

* GCC 4.7

* LibreOffice 4.0.3.3.2

* Firefox 21.0

* KDE 4.10.4

* GNOME 3.9.1

Silva said the main goals for Milestone 3 are Perl 5.18 and GCC 4.8. The features list is still in template stage, except for one entry Under the hood for the kernel. It says, "the default cipher mode for new LUKS volumes is now XTS." The Most Annoying Bugs list is still empty too. There's plenty of time though, openSUSE 13.1 isn't due until November 19. We'll go through a couple more milestones, a beta, and two release candidates before then. Download Milestone 2 from software.opensuse.org and report your bugs to the bugzilla.
