OpenX Offers Hosted Service

We've written about OpenX several times before. It's an open source ad server that lets you manage a mix of ads from multiple networks across your web site, and it's overseen by a veteran of Yahoo. Now, as noted on ZDNet, and The Earth Times, OpenX has a hosted version. Here's what the news means.

OpenX Hosted was announced today via a blog post. It will allow publishers serving up to 25 million ad impressions per month to take control of the ads they serve for free without running OpenX's software, or worrying about upgrades. "Hundreds of publishers helped with testing and gave feedback which shaped OpenX Hosted," says the announcement.

In addition to the standard free ad serving, OpenX Hosted will offer Professional and Enterprise plans for large sites, with features detailed here. The company's FAQ has answers to most common questions. You can also read case studies on how some publishers are using OpenX's traditional offering here.

OpenX remains a small player in the big world of online advertising, but a hosted version makes sense, and ties the company's services in more closely with how other ad servers work.  Now let's just see how hard the whole online advertising space is about to get hit.
