As noted on Lifehacker, the new beta version of open source media center application Plex offers support for Hulu. Plex is for Mac OS X users only, and is noted for its glitzy, skinnable interface. Like Boxee, which was recently forced to remove support for Hulu content, Plex is a fork of the XBMC Media Center project. Here, you can view screencasts showing how Plex and its galaxy of plug-ins work.
I've been a big fan of Boxee, but loss of support for Hulu content is a big blow. Boxee has confirmed on its blog that Hulu content was more requested by its users than any other type.
Mac users may well want to look into Plex, judging from what I've seen in the demonstrations. Plex manages video, photos, music, podcasts and more. It's also skinnable, and the screencasts show what it looks like with various skins. The top screencast here illustrates how the App Store works with Plex, enabling users to get plug-ins for various video content sources, including Hulu. You can also use Plex to access iTunes.
I still like what I see in Boxee. However, I'm planning to look into the new beta of Plex, and will post a review of it soon. One has to wonder if Hulu will object to Plex's support for its content, as it did in the case of Boxee.
