Reviews and Photos of the T-Mobile G1 Phone Pouring In

Some of the early reviews of the T-Mobile G1 phone, based on Google's Android platform, are starting to come in. You can find quite a few of them from the GigaOm Network collected here. There are also some very extensive photo-driven reviews appearing online, which can provide a strong sense of what the applications on the phone are like. Here are some pointers to good reviews to check out.

As WebWorkerDaily's collection of reviews points out, there are people on the GigaOm Network trying out the G1. You'll find a really good photo-driven tour, with informative captions, at JKOnTheRun, here.

Om Malik has also done an extensive "What I Love and Hate" post about the phone here. Om notes: "This isn’t an iPhone competitor. If you look at it, you can very quickly see that the G-1 is a Honda to iPhone’s BMW."

However, Om also found many things to like about the phone, including the keyboard, and especially the fast and nimble Android operating system itself. "It makes Windows Mobile feel like a retiree," says Om.

ZDNet also has an extremely extensive photo-driven tour of the phone here. It includes over 260 images and five videos of the phone. After using the phone for a week, Matthew Miller at ZDNet concluded that he liked it, but he has an extensive wish list for both the phone and Android applications here.

Just got done smashing the hell out of my G1. Even put on different shoes to stomp it repeatedly afterwards. So disappointed with T-mobile and Google. I knew I was taking a chance with a first version of it but had (too much) faith in both. If even half the applications it had worked, I'd be thrilled, even though that's still a quarter of what the iPhone offers. Maybe next time, like G2 or even 3. But please, please do not spend what I did on this phone. Money, patience, and time.
