Watch LinuxCon Live From Your Computer Next Week

LinuxCon is only a week away, and the brand new conference looks like it will be one of the best open source events of the year. The conference kicks off Monday, September 21st in Portland, Oregon, and there is a roster of excellent speakers, ranging from Linus Torvalds to Canonical's Mark Shuttleworth to Bob Sutor from IBM. Not everybody can make it to Portland, though, which is why it's great news that there will be opportunities to view all events via live and archived video streams. Some sessions are free, while others aren't. Here are the details.

LinuxCon is a Linux Foundation event, and the foundation's Amanda McPherson notes that all keynote sessions at LinuxCon will be free to view live online. You can also remotely view the conference sessions live if you wish, for $99, which gets you access to the live sessions as well as the archived versions.  Registration is available here.

Here are the keynote sessions that you can view for free, and all times are Pacific Standard Time:

Monday, Sep. 21

9:00 a.m.: Jim Zemlin, Welcome Keynote

9:15 a.m.: Bob Sutor (IBM), Clouds, Mainframes, and Desktops ... and Linux

1:30 p.m.: Imad Sousou (Intel), How to Shine in a Crowded Field

2:00 p.m.: Roundtable - The Linux Kernel: Straight From the Source

Tuesday, Sep. 22

9:00 a.m.: Joe Brockmeier (Novell), A Musical Guide to the Future of Linux

1:30 p.m.: Matt Asay (Alfresco), Beyond the Hype: The True Cost of Linux and Open Source

4:45 p.m.: Noah Broadwater (Sesame Workshop), Building a More Agile Web Experience While Driving Down Costs

Wednesday, Sep. 23rd

10:00 a.m.: Bdale Garbee (HP), The Freedom to Collaborate

4:00  p.m.: Mark Shuttleworth (Canonical), Let's Get Together: Coordinated Software Releases, The Linux Ecosystem and the Impact on the Global Marketplace

Note that the 2 p.m. roundtable on Monday includes Linus Torvalds. Viewing the other sessions at the conference does cost $99, but there are many good ones slated. There is one titled Why Open Standards Matter to Linux, as well as a session on the future of Linux. If you don't watch the sessions live, and only view the archived versions after LinuxCon, the fee for them is $49. Check out some of the other sessions you can get access to.
