Hello, and welcome to OStatic, where we are ecstatic about open source! I'm Sam Dean, and I'm the editor of the OStatic blog. We are very glad you're here.

OStatic's mission is to be the most comprehensive web destination for information and insight on open source software and services. This blog features a team of writers who have been using and writing about open source tools for years. You'll find them to be especially good at guiding you to the very best applications.

We also intend to keep this blog as interesting as possible by posting interviews with movers and shakers in the open source community, reviews and hands-on tests, and much more. We'll focus on tools for all the major platforms--from Linux to the Mac--and we hope to become essential daily reading for you.

The OStatic site is populated with many kinds of information on open source, and is also part of the GigaOm network of blogs, so we'll be able to leverage many kinds of resources as we try to deliver the best open source information possible. On this site, you'll find search tools for finding open source applications, user ratings for open source applications, a knowledgeable open source community that can answer your questions, and much more. It's also very important to note that you can update OStatic's pages dedicated to particular open source projects with your own thoughts, asides and other contributions. We want you to talk back to us!

We will especially appreciate your involvement in this site's content and this blog's posts, because sharing and community efforts are what open source is all about. Please post your comments when you read our posts, and we will be very proactive about keeping dialogue open with you and answering questions. Also, let us know if you have any thoughts on how we can improve the information we bring to you.

Once again, we're very glad you're here, and please visit us for daily updated content during your web sojourns.

Best,

The Editors

Nice! I like the clean design, and I like the power this will hopefully give the community! Anything that helps increase the adoption of FOSS is great!

There are some cool things that you can do here, especially with so many web services coming on line too.

I see how this gives more power to the user than SF does. That's great. Kudos!

Great to see this initiative!

For both those involved and those interested in open source, the discussion is the most important tool in order to take the next step.

Have nothing but trust that this community will grow fast enough to make it a strong one.

And great to see this more than neat design on a Drupal basis... respect!

Hi Sam.

Good timing on the release of this site.

I act as the Tech go-to-guy for all my friends, family and work colleges and I'm all ways pushing them in the direction of open source.

I've recently setup a blog of my own to act as a central knowledge base for those I help out. Part of my site deals with and suggests open source alternatives to market leader products.

Hopefully OStatic will be a regular stop for me on my quest to find information for my own burgeoning open source community.

this site is SOOOOO much better than the interface for crunchbase...

Hey Sam - great initiative and you guys are walking the talk by using Drupal below the covers & Wordpress as the platform for Om's other blogs.

Enjoy reading your posts and keep them coming! (despite what some nitpickers might have to say)

I am impressed at the number of applications you have information about already. This is going to be a better and better resource as time goes by.
