OpenSource?

DimDim is another one of those products that claims to be Open Sourc e to get the marketing hype but then does everything it can to keep the community from participating.

The SourceCode as published won't compile into a functional app.

The Code base appears to be intentionally obfuscated to make community changes as difficult as possible.

To get a functional version of the app you have to download the Compiled installer.

The "Community Edition" that is reported to be the Open Source version is Cripple Ware.

The liscensing the Code is said to be released under doesn't match the Liscense that actually comes

I effect it's another bait and switch scam at least in my book. I'd recommend not getting to close to this one.

Naman pretty much somes it up with the statement "The Price is Right?". If your looking to pay for your conferencing solution then perhaps this might be Right for you but anyone that advertises it as OpenSource and then trys to get your to buy it isn't someone I want to do business with.

Great + No Client Side Application Required

AJAX based web meeting platform that is a great alternative to Webex, Goto Meeting, etc. etc. The price is right and the darn thing actually works! Installation is a little cumbersome but nothing the Sys. Admin in your office wont be able to handle in a couple of hours.

Dimdim Launches a Webinar Platform, Lets Producers Make Money

Dimdim, an open source web conferencing provider that we've covered many times, launched what it is billing as "an easy webinar service" today. Dimdim has long competed closely with proprietary web conferencing services such as WebEx, and its new service will provide personalized webinar platforms for webinars delivered to up to 1,000 people. In conjunction with the new service, Dimdim has struck a partnership with Eventbrite, which does event management and ticketing, so that anyone delivering webinars can find avenues to make money with them.

Microsoft Lifecam VX-1000 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

So many meetings, so little time. With the amount of remote teams spread out all over the globe while working together on projects, it's amazing anything gets done. The advent of Web conferencing has made group collaboration a lot easier and, for some businesses, it's the only way to keep everyone on the same page. Let's take a look at some popular open source Web conferencing apps that keep everyone chatting happily while they get things done.

We've covered Dimdim a lot here at OStatic. It's a full-featured free Web conferencing app that raised $6 million in Series B funding last year and has taken aim at expensive commercial options like Cisco System's WebEx and Microsoft's Placeware. Up to 20 people at a time can get together withDimdim's free version which also includes audio and video sharing, event recording, whiteboards, and private messaging.
