The Book “a recollection of reconciliation”
This memoir captures moments in my life thus far which made me who I am today. The emphasis of this book surrounds my life around the age 14-16 and the main setting of this story will also be set in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a country next to China and it is part of China but Hong Kong is special because they have a democracy there much similar to the United Kingdom because Hong Kong was owned by the UK before 1998 and was returned to China in 1998 and eventually grown and evolved into the country/city we all know and love today.
1998 also marks a special year for me and my family since it was of course the year I was born. As weird as it may sound, I remember the details of my birth not from my own memory, but from a video that my mom insisted be recorded at the time I was conceived. I still remember “accidentally finding the tape labeled “Timmy” and playing it in a VCR machine at the time not knowing what to expect. I wont go into the gory details but I did remember the film showcasing my second oldest sister Sammi, who was 6 at the time holding hands with my dad. She asked my dad what the bands around her wrists were for and when we would be able to check on my mom. I was baffled at the time of seeing this video since I still couldn’t comprehend what was happening but it felt like I was looking through a portal in time, seeing my past. My father soon goes into a hospital room with my mom and two nurses in the room with her. A bunch of “stuff” happens, and moments later the video captures a tiny baby crying and soaked in blood as the baby was carried to a table where the nurse gave my dad the honor of cutting my umbilical cord.
