Romeo and Juliet Essay
William Shakespeare, a renowned author, is known for his timeless literature that has been loved and analyzed for centuries; his piece on Romeo and Juliet is no exception. Romeo and Juliet is about two star-crossed lovers who cannot foresee a future without one another. However, due to their family’s never ending feud being seen together itself will cause an uprising in their town of Verona let alone getting married. The Capulet’s and Montague’s have hated each other for years, for a reason that is unknown. Whenever the two families come face to face there is bloodshed, no matter what the reason is. Albeit, this is not the case for Romeo and Juliet. At the tender age of 13 and 16 the young couple saw past these issues and did not let it affect their personal relationship. The children in the novel can make wiser decisions than their parents in certain circumstances since they can look past each other’s flaws, be more responsible than those twice their age and are better able to resolve any conflicts that may arise.

However, the parents of both Romeo and Juliet were not able to see that some matters are more important than their feud and that it may be time to move on. Juliet had tried explaining to her parents, Lady and Lord Capulet that marrying Romeo is not something to feel shameful about. Howbeit, she was verbally and physically abused for saying so. For instance, in Act 3 scene 5 lines 140 to 145 Lord Capulet quotes “Forget about you, you worthless girl! You disobedient wretch! I’ll tell you what. Go to church on Thursday or never look me in the face again. Don’t say anything. Don’t reply. Don’t talk back to me. (JULIET rises) I feel like slapping you. Wife, we never thought ourselves blessed that God only gave us this one child. But now I see that this one is one too many. We were cursed when we had her. She disgusts me, the little hussy!” The interaction that Juliet has with both her parents in this scene proves that their main concern is to get Juliet married with a bachelor that is accepted by society and will raise the family’s name and wealth rather than provide their daughter with tremendous happiness.
