Does Playing Violent Video Games Negatively Impact Behavior?
Do you like playing video games that involve shooting, stealing, and other bad behavior? Many people of all ages enjoy playing video games in their free time. There are many different types of games of all genres that they enjoy to play. The games that these people enjoy can be very fun, but some of these games are extremely violent. Many studies that have been conducted have shown a big relationship between violent video games and aggressive behavior acted out by the players. Violent video games can have a huge negative impact on a person's life in many different ways.
People can develop aggressive behaviors by playing violent video games. There are many factors that can contribute to the development of aggressive behaviors in people. According to a Opposing Viewpoints article, "Violent Video Games Promote Teen Aggression and Violence” by Craig A. Anderson, “Exposing children and adolescents (or "youth") to violent visual media increases the likelihood that they will engage in physical aggression against another person.” Children act based on other peoples actions, so when children are playing these violent video games they are likely to act like their favorite character. According to a recent study conducted by David Walsh shows that students that play very little violent video games were only involved in 28% of high hostile physical fights, whereas students that play a lot of violent video game were involved in 63%. Elizabeth K. Carll, author of "Violent Video Games: Rehearsing Aggression” says that, “Exposure to violent media increases feelings of hostility, thoughts about aggression, suspicions about the motives of others and demonstrates violence as a method to deal with conflict.” When people that interact with a lot of violent video games get into conflicts it can be hard for them to correctly handle the situation. They think that violence is the right answer because they are used to seeing violence being used as the correct way to handle situations in the violent games they enjoy.
Additionally Violent video games have a big physiological effect on players. Violent video games can also cause emotional and mental problems. According to “Violent Video Games Promote Teen Aggression and Violence” by Craig A. Anderson, violent video games cause “Aggressive thoughts increase, which in turn increase the likelihood that a mild or ambiguous provocation will be interpreted in a hostile fashion.” When kids play violent video games their minds are set on violence. Most of them don't know how to control their anger, so when they get mad they act in violence. People also do not know the difference between wrong and right after playing video games. Just like Elizabeth K. Carl author of, “Violent Video Games and Aggressive Behavior in Children Are Linked” says,“Sexual aggression against women, including assault, rape, and murder, is depicted as humorous and is glamorized and rewarded.” K...
