The Irish War of Revolution Story
So as many stories do, they have to begin somewhere and in order for there
to be a revolution a group needs something to revolt against. In the case of of
Ireland, they had to revolt against the big country of Britain. This revolution began
during the 1912 when the Third home rule bill was passed. The third home rule bill
was passed by the british parliament and basically gave self-governing to Ireland.
But as the time went by, the British started disliking the idea of Ireland being home
ruled. One group stood up and said that maybe Ireland did want the control over
themselves. That group was a left-wing republican party called Sinn Fein who
wanted Ireland to become its own republic. That dream was eventually achieved in
1918 but not without its fights. One major conflict was between the Sinn Fein and
the Northern Province of Ulster. Now the Province was extremely pro-Britain and
wanted Ireland to be under complete control of England. Both groups highly
disliked each other until one day when the Ulster decided to form their own militia
called the “Ulster Volunteers” in order to scare off the Senn Pein and the idea of
Irish self-governing. In response to that the Senn Pein formed their own militia
called “Irish Volunteers”. This group was formed in order to make sure they
successfully make the Ireland home ruled again. But this rivalry did not last a long
time because soon the WWI broke out. Ireland, not having a major role in the war,
was only there to support Britain. After a couple of years however, the members of
“Irish Volunteers”(which became a large group) got sick of it and believed that
they could actually reach out for the goal of Ireland becoming home ruled so in
1916, they threw this little thing called The Easter Rising. The Easter Rising lasted
a full 6 days. This was led by seven rebels of the “Irish Volunteers” which was no
