We as growing humans have a very interesting life span. We go from infancy, childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood. With each span of development in our lives also comes with challenges. While they may seem like simple challenges looking back on them or even from a perspective of a textbook, they all have an effect in our lives. What we may find as challenging in one stage of our lives at the time, we can look back and see how it formed us. Middle adulthood is the stage between young adulthood and late adulthood. During this adulthood stage, changes are still occurring and the body and mind are still growing. In this paper, we will discuss several topics that pertain to the physical development that one may experience in the stage of middle adulthood.
The first topic that we would like to discuss is the health problems that can occur in the middle adulthood stage. While there are several out there we are discussing four common health problems and how the adult can handle them at this stage in life. Health problem can be associated with age, genes, or they could be serious illnesses. The most common health issues known to humankind are hypertension, heart disease, diabetics, and osteoporosis. Hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis play a significant role in disease morbidity and mortality. These four diseases are all interrelated in some way. Hypertension also known as high blood pressure. When you are hypertensive you are prone to heart attack and stokes. Hypertension is renamed as the silent killer and is more prevalent in African American population. If hypertension in left untreated it can lead to serious complications with heart disease. Diabetes can be either genetic or acquired. It can be classified as insulin dependent or non-independent. Other diabetics can treat their diabetes with pills or diet. If you’re fasting glucose is higher than 126 you are considered a diabetic. Diabetes can also cause heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the USA. The debility condition carries risk factors that may be genetic or acquired. Individuals with high cholesterol and an unhealthy diet are among the people who may end up with heart disease. Lastly, osteoporosis is a growing disease that mostly affects menopausal women. Osteoporosis is when the bones become brittle and weak.
As with many other changes that occur in middle adulthood sexuality are among the many changes, this period for men and women holds precedent over certain relationships. Menopause is a very deep issue that's associated sexuality in middle adulthood for women. Night sweats, weight gain, sleep and rest are disturbed and problems with frequent urination, irritability, forgetfulness, mood swings and depression.
