Main Character - Casey Powell is a Seventeen-year-old shy teenaged girl who gets good grades and dreams of being a professional ballet dancer. moreover , She is also a cheerleader that also adds up to his obsession of looking thinner
Overview - Casey Powell is a young teenage girl who is secretly suffering from anorexia nervosa, a mental and physical illness of deliberately starving herself or self-induced vomiting, because of her troubled home life and problems at school in which her bickering parents must put aside their differences to help her recover before her condition kills her. (Imdb, 1981)
Casey believes she needs to be really thin if she wants to become a good cheerleader and ballet dancer, this is evidenced by her statement to the doctor that she has to skinny to become a cheerleader, she can not go there looking like a pig. Her parents, Frank and Joanne, give all their attention to her 19-year-old sister Gail. Feeling ignored by her parents and embarrassed by harassment at her cheerleading audition, Casey starts wanting to look like the girls on the covers of magazines and begins to diet and exercise. Casey is noticed by her ballet teacher, Madame Seuart, who tells her that she could be very good if she loses a few pounds. And that worked as fuel to the fire. Because of the societal norms, It doesn't take long before Casey becomes anorexic.

It all started with a embarrassing cheerleader audition and her ballet teacher telling her to lose few pounds if she wants to be a good dancer. Moreover, over the time it started to interfere with her normal functioning, she got really weak and started failing her test. She missed her periods too for over 6 weeks. Her family was not really supportive and had no understanding of the disease process that made it worse for her.she said she has to skinny it she wanted to become good cheerleader and dancer and felt pride in when she saw herself in the mirror with the bones protruding.
