Last month, I took a brief tour of the pre-release Songbird music player. Songbird is a cross-platform media player based on Mozilla code. This week, the Songbird project released the finalized 1.0 version of the player.
The pre-release versions of Songbird featured iPod support, Last.fm scrobbling, SHOUTcast radio, plugin extensions, and a localized concert discovery service. The 1.0 release adds one more feature to its default list -- MashTape -- and turns an ambitious eye toward the future.

After many years of being an Amarok fan, I was introduced to Banshee. Banshee fast became my media player of choice, due to its ability to handle video and audio files, as well as stream internet radio and podcasts.
Until now, Banshee was only available for Linux. Developer Aaron Bockover explained recently a bit about cross platform development challenges, how to get Banshee for your Mac now, and why the Windows version will be Banshee at heart, but could look very different.
Mark Shuttleworth, the man at the helm of Canonical and Ubuntu, went into greater detail last week about his thoughts on making future Ubuntu releases more user-focused. In the past, Shuttleworth has made no pretense that he feels Apple has, historically, offered a superior user experience.
Shuttleworth's comments have elicited striking reactions, ranging from enthusiastic support to concern about what "innovation" really means.
I on hooked on MS Paint and SnagIT for editing screenshots by cutting and moving parts of an image, comment, draw, etc. to create mockups - Yes they are hideous but its very quick & VERY effective!! I just can't seem to figure out how to do that with a mac. There are several apps that let you take screenshots (incl. Command-Shift-3 on Leopard) but nothing that lets me move parts of the image and draw stuff like you can do on Paint/Snagit.
Any ideas??? I REALLY REALLY need this....
There seem to be a lot of mac aficiandos on this site and after 15 years of paying Bill Gates for software I decided it was time to start lining Steve Jobs' pockets and I just got me a brand spanking new Macbook Pro! Love it, but now I need software!! I don't know the first thing about Macs and am still getting used to the new interface. Was hoping I could get some suggestions for cool office productivity tools like to-do lists, file management tools, and most importantly - replacements for my old MSFT tools - Office, Visio, Project, Front Page, etc. etc. etc.
Thanks!!
Any apps out there that allow you to do this for the MAC? Preferably, free/os apps...
Can't seem to unzip these files on the Mac (using Leopard) and i don't have parallels/Fusion. Any ideas on how I can get this done?
My Mac doesn't allow me to write to my external HD. Any apps that can help me resolve this issue. The drive works fine with the PC...
