There has always been a free (as in beer) version available, and since a few months there is also an Open Source version available (free as in speech).


Feature-wise, MT can definitely withstand the comparison with WP, but with a much better track record on security and hassle-free upgrades.

In Second Place...

No idea why these guys would do something as stupid as charging for their service, effectively alienating a good chunk of their loyal user base and losing the first mover advantage they had built.


The product is good but Wordpress clearly has the momentum and is the better product. Typepad is good for the entry level blogger since its more reliable and doesn't have the some of the upgrade issues you face with Wordpress but anyone looking for industrial-strength capabilities should think about upgrading to wordpress...

Syntax highlighting in blog

I am about to start using Wordpress or movable type for my blog. I write about tech stuff and include code snippets. I was hoping to highlight syntax in my posts, and ideally, link out to Wikipedia for other links. Any ideas on good ways to achieve this?
