    Try IP Messenger, (which I am sure many at office already use). Its the simplest messenger with file transfer capabilities too.

    Otherwise there are some really good P2P based messengers which are very secure and provide a lot of functionality.

    Any irc client provides a good chat system with direct file transfers.

    You can also used to be able to get products from Microsoft that will allow you to run an IM session on your intranet.

    Is that Bigany easily configurable to only allow communication within my network? I don't want everyone chatting all day to theire msn contacts.

    Hi Andyams, yes, the configuration of BigAnt LAN messenger takes less than 15 minutes ,it works inside your LAN or WAN preventing employees from wasting their time on chatting with their Internet "buddies" via Internet-based or public messengers. We have been using BigAnt for a period, everyone likes it :-)
