Check out Nagios. Other alternatives are listed on the page. (http://ostatic.com/45028-software-opensource/nagios)
They include Zenoss and Zabbix.
Nagios works well - check out my review there.

Try out Hyperic - its open source, free and has received really good reviews in the market.

I am not sure what you mean by monitoring computers. But if its a simple way of connecting to the computers in the lan and able to take control of them from a single PC, you could try Kaboodle (uses VNC to take control of the remote PC).

Nope osafw , Monitoring means to check the remote computer activity... i.e websites visited, applications opened, screensnap
Yes Abhinav then Kaboodle wont be able help with that. I read about Hyperic, does anyone have any updates on that?
