Best web log analyzer?

By Jose Kent - Apr. 18, 2007

Google Analytics only does client side tracking. But, it doesn't track stuff like google bots, for example, which are not technically 'hits'. AWstats and Webalizer do server-side log-file analysis. Are we basically destined to use both in conjuction? How well does Awstats 'stats' stack up vs. webalizer? Vs. Google Analytics? Can I use only one solution for both client and server side tracking?

AWstats has a client component too, that can be used. I personally prefer to use both. Here is an interesting article that talks about this: http://www.tomrafteryit.net/awstats-vs-webalizer-lies-damn-lies-and-statistics/ The stats from all three packages are going to be different, so the important thing is to determine: 1) what constitutes a visit 2) how is your traffic changing over time.
