Which open source applications support the .docx format?

Hello. Take a look at http://docx-converter.com/ - this service will allow you to convert your format into something you can open with other editors, including openoffice.

Thanks, but it is very painful to do that each time you get a .docx file + the formatting isn't always what its supposed to be. I'm sure OOo will have it soon, but I was hoping that someone already supported it. Abiword doesn't support it either. Trust these fu@#$ to figure out a way to make it painful! :)

Hi Is the problem because yu are using the older MS2003 to open a MS 2007 created doc? If so then yu could try the MS compatibility pack available at Microsoft’s site, at the following URL:

or just ask the person to re-save it as word 2003 and resend it to you :)

You should avoid using docx format at all costs, as it is a proprietary format it will always have extremely limited interoperability.
Ask microsoft to support an industry standard like ODF instead.

abiword will work.. if you are using a windows os first you need to make sure that you can see the file type and change the file type to a .doc upon doing so you should be able to open it in abiword but Microsoft office will not recognize the file anymore..... also i just read that the new open office supports it.
