Firefox 3 Beta 4 - What's the Verdict?

By Daylon Jackson - Mar. 11, 2008

I just downloaded it and it seems to be working great. Love the new bookmarking and save password functionality but am not sure about the memory leak issues as yet. Anyone else use this release?

Its a great improvement over 2.x but there's still a lot of cleanup before it is ready for primetime.

Seems like the only real issue is if you're a hotmail user - you can't use it with the new MS Live interface and will have to switch to the old hotmail interface. Since I don't use hotmail, this is not a real issue for me. Outside of that it is humming!

For what it's worth, I'm finding the memory and CPU use to be lower (on OS X) than with either FF2 or FF3B3.

Great improvement over Beta 3 - Startup time is only a couple of seconds now compared to almost half a minute for Beta 3.

Also, the auto-complete feature for the address bar is awesome!

Firefox has once again shown the power of Open Source. Beta 4 is just great! It starts up very quickly and it seems like the page loads up faster as well. I didn't sit there with a stop watch but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is better than anything else out there except Safari but unfortunately I don't have a Mac at work!
