GIMP 2.4.5 on Mac OS X

New Mac user here (I previously used GIMP on my PC). When I open a jpg file on my Mac, the image properties are substantially different than the original. For example, I take large format digital photos and they are usually 3,888 x 2,592 px with a file size of around 4 MB. When I open the same picture in GIMP the file properties are 360 x 240 px. This never happened on my PC. I can't find anything in the documentation to explain this. What am I missing (besides a bunch of pixels)?

    hello Valerie, I just installed Gimp on my Intel Mac running Leopard and I am not seeing the issue you describe above. hmmm. I downloaded the top item on the following page: http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/download.html Are you on a PPC or Intel based mac?

    Intel based and I installed the version for Intel. I have actually uninstalled and reinstalled just to be sure.

    Have you tried opening the same jpg file in another application (e.g. Seashore or Photoshop) on the Mac. Just trying to see if we can isolate this as a mac problem or a gimp problem.

    What is the native file size, before opening? So, if you save it from your capture device, what does it show up as? What's the file size in Preview?

    If I open the pictures with GIMP right off the card itself, everything stays as expected (3,888 x 2,592 pixels and around 4 MB). If I import the files using i-photo and THEN open them with GIMP, somewhere in the process the file shows up in GIMP as 360 x 240 pixels and much smaller. And it stays that way. My workaround for the time being is to not use i-photo to import my files. I'm hitting the road today and will be taking a lot of pictures. I hope this all works until I can get back and work through this more thoughtfully.

    I'm experiencing this too. When I opened in iPhoto, the image properties remains.
